Meat For Bait

I found a better photo of the Live Paint piece.....

..... As a piece constructed in 8 ish hours I'm really pleased with it.

It is part of a continuing series of pieces where I'm abstracting both my own created characters and some that have already been abstracted from other sources. I want to emphasize 'abstracted from other sources' here. I'm not copying images directly, I want to use them as a jumping off point and then take them through several stages of reworking and abstraction before I use them. Sometimes when you take an image out of it's context it takes on a whole different meaning, and this is a brilliant foundation to create a piece where all the elements in it are reactions it's neighbours.

The MTPt logo is in itself an ongoing experiment in abstraction, more later.

Live Paint @ Alternative Ink 2-10-10

8 hours to produce a piece of art from scratch that will be displayed in the Alternative Ink gallery for 6 weeks...is that all...

Anyway here it is in 12...

1. Worst fear, a blank board! We were all supplied with the same size of primed MDF board.

2. I'd seen this panel in an old Ritchie Rich comic and have been wanting to use it for ages. The bottom of the panel would be hand drawn so I used a Sharpie to draw the lines.

3.  Block in the colour.

4. beefed up the type

5. Laid down the background colour with aerosol (green over yellow) and sprayed some tone on to try and give it the old school comic book look.

7. Bit of masking, bit of darker green.

8.rip off the masking..

9. spend an absolute age kneeling on the floor with a tiny brush inking the lines in..

10. Then sand the lot back.

11. I stenciled the main character colours to save time and then started inking in the details.

12.Finished the piece off with a MtPt logo. 8 1/2 hours on the dot, stop the clock!

Hey, in case you didn't know (and why wouldn't you!) it's Belfast Fashion Week (sponsored by Poundland)... which means there'll be  wee Spides out there waiting with baited breath for the next Trackie fashion trend. Meanwhile in a quite side of town the fashion genius that is Curious Tales let me loose with her t-shirt press....

Shock and Awwwwww! - Alternative Ink, Holywood

What a whirlwind week and a bit! Last night both RockpoolCandy and myself put the finishing touches on our "Shock and Awwwwww!" art show at the opening of Alternative Ink tattoo studio in Holywood (62 High Street). I haven't blogged about it because I've spent every spare second putting finishing touches to new pieces. It also gave me the opportunity to finally finish off some old pieces the way I really wanted to in the first place. A lot of my pieces were getting a second showing from the "Underground Overground" show, and I have to say they look so much better in their new surroundings.

The 'Shock and Awwwwww!' show is on for 6 weeks and it's really worth having a gander at the beautifully mad pieces that RockpoolCandy has come up with, it was a real pleasure to watch her create these new pieces.. not a fibre in site!! These are exciting times for the pair of us.

I'm knackered so I'm just going to post some of the photos..

I've donated a piece for "heARTS for haiti", Valentines Day, Black Box, Belfast.

Oh No! part 3

YaY! I finished my artworks for the oscillations show....

...........I'm pretty pleased with them both even though I ran out of time. I loved painting on the found wood, trying to keep all the cracks and splits and peeling bits intact. I am also delivering some of the other artists works to the show... so here's a sneek (I'll drop in links to their websites after the jump).

It's Yours Take It! - Belfast part deux 25/07/09

Okay, here's the deal. Take a group of artworks by international underground artists, put up an art exhibition, people come along or come across it completely by accident and if they like what they see they can have it for free. Simple. Genius.
Thanks to Dogtired for organising the whole shebang and inviting me to take part!
The art was a mix of painted, stenciled and photographed and I can hand on heart say that there wasn't

a duff piece to be found! It was great to see so many Happy Takers!
I stuck mine front and center on the gates of City Hall
