Art Lab in 13.
Rockpoolcandy and I were lucky enough to receive an invitation from the Turnpike Gallery to run an "Art Lab" for a week running up to Easter. A chance to get our ideas directly out to the public. Because we only had a week (including install) I tried to keep it simple. I took my 200 words project on the road and also had a week of live painting......BRILL!
This canvas and the following 3 have been singled out because they are a direct result of my experiences with Reiki. I'm not going to analyse, let's just say that after 3 days of Reiki and energy work these babies just flowed.
Two memebers of the public sitting down to write their 200 words...
Cha-ching! "that'll be 200 handwritten words please". The quality of the submissions I got for the 200 words project in Leigh was amazing. People really seemed to connect with it. I had people's dreams, recipes, poems and sci-fi story's. One snotty child minder said to me "You'll never get kids to write 200 words!" WRONG!!!! The kids were great, one girl took 3 hours to write hers... I shoud've awarded her the 200 words medal of honour....Happy Win!
As well as 200words, I was doing an all week 'Pimp your painting'. I LOVE characterising these old paintings. I had about 10 hung up around the gallery and characterised them as I went. But the best thing was that in the middle of the gallery I hung one painting, and the public could suggest what should be happening in the painting or what characters should be in it. Man, their imagination ran riot! If I get the chance I will upload all the photos i took of their work...genius!
Detail. The character in the top right was suggested by a member of ze public, and the bus top idea was a written suggestion by a mum who didn't want to draw her idea.
A closing shot of the painting surrounded by the people of Liegh's crazy ideas. It was a truely brilliant week, thank you Martyn for inviting us to the wonderful Turnpike (doffs his cap)..... and sorry this post is soooo late (again, doffs his cap).
