Hurstpierpointers!

Not only is Hurstpierpoint a lovely village but it's full of lovely people (apart from the miserable sods who work in the co-op!). I just received this:

We found it - that's Joe and Poppy (twins aged 11) found it! This made our day, if not our lives (well, almost)! The exact details are as follows

Travelling through the beautiful little village of Hurstpierpoint and I just couldn't resist....

....bottom right.....BABY MASSAGE CLASS!... someone should look into this! I hope it's not run by a leering elderly gentleman! (shit, did I just write that!).... anyhoo if your ever in Hurstpierpoint have a pint in The New Inn...nice!

Brighton Rawks!

Just back from visiting my good friend Mr.P & Mr.T in Brighton...the home of cool! I took the chance to talk Mr.T into putting some canvases up for me...

... see he doesn't look shifty at all! He's much better at it than I am 'cos his canvases were found (more later)!
This is the set I took to Brighton, and again they all glow in the dark....

 

i had alot of fun with the backgrounds on these.

Anyway with the help of T we put some canvases up around the Lanes, and we found some awesome graf! Apologies for not knowing the artists names but top scrawlin' fellas!..

Oh yeah I also found a nice spot for one of Kriebels!...

Liverpool canvases

I spent a week helping Rockpool Candy put up her gorgeous crochet pieces in the UK DIY exhibition in Leigh, but we were staying with a friend and fellow crochet artist Ildi in Liverpool. So I was hoping to get out and about in Liverpool and stick some canvases up....but circumstances conspired against this. I did paint some cracking canvases though, it must've been hanging around all these creative types!

I'm trying to experiment with composition and trying not to use black line...I like it.

 

I used the Midnight Blue from the Citadel Miniatures paint range for the outline on this one. Their range of model paints are great for these canvases (easy to carry around with you) and not too expensive...although the names of them (snot green...warlock purple etc.) and the fact that you have to go into a Games Workshop shop to buy them (aaah the smell of over excited nerds!) probably put a lot of people off! I also like the background so much on this one that I've carried it through to the next lot of canvases.

 

Again I used the Midnight Blue for the outline, I like the camo greens. And I used the Nightrocker blue for the background (more later) so again all these guys glow in the dark!

I did get a chance to stick this guy up In Liverpool...

I also had an opportunity to stick one of Kriebel's canvases up in a rather apt location (I thought).

UK DIY

I was lucky enough to help Rockpool Candy set up her new exhibition at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh, and I was asked by the curators if I would like to put some photos up and explain to the public what Mytarpit is.

This was quite an honour.
I was sharing gallery space with some of the most talented artists in the UK.
I won't go into a huge amount of detail here, but the pieces in the Gallery are very inspirational.In fact the whole 'DIY' scene is extremely exciting. Ever since I was a kid I loved home made comics and magazines. How cool is it that there are people out there who don't let the normal barriers (social and financial) stop them from being creative. And YAY! the fanzine scene is still alive and kicking, as is DIY record production!
 And thank christ for beautiful women who extreme crochet! Check out Rockpool Candy crocheting to whirling banjos!...HERE..
 Lets just say that there are some ingenious ideas at this show and the artists involved deserve to be in the art spotlight. If you're in the Leigh area you should make time to see it!
I also took the chance to put some canvases up in the gallery. It'll be interesting to see if they stay in the gallery to the end of the exhibition!

More Stickers ( and prints!!)

Just finished hand printing a short run of stickers and cards.
I managed to get time to go to the print workshop and get some doodles onto some screens. I love this process...gets your hands dirty. I'll blog more about the silk-screen printing soon, but as you can probably tell from the crap spelling and layout I'm doing this on my iPhone. The cards are printed on Fabriano paper and they are both 3 colour and 1 colour. This marks the start of my "It's not your fault!" campaign... again I need to take more time to explain this.
I'll be dropping these along with some more canvases over the next couple of weeks...... more soon!

It's not you know...stop blaming yourself!

Travellin' Sketchbook

One of the reasons for me neglecting my blog was that I was trying to get my entry for the "Sketchbook Project 3" done on time.

This is an exhibition of sketchbooks, on the theme of "Everyone I Know", which is going to travel around the States for 6 months. You can get more details on this and many other cool co-op projects that the Arthouse Co-op Group are doing........HERE...

I found out about it completely by accident before Saturnalia, applied for my sketchbook which then duly arrived start of Jan. I knew I would have to get it back in the post by the beginning of Feb to make the deadline. But I really wanted to put something of worth in the show, so there were a lot of late nights getting it done.

Because the show is travelling around, I took it as an opportunity to say 'Bout Ye! to all the friends we have out there in the good 'ol USofA. I also used it as a process to quickly distill some ideas i had knocking about, some of which I really liked and I'll take them forward.

I've put up 2 galleries......HERE.....and HERE of the sketches I did, but I hope some of you get to see it for yourselves.

Wow.
No Excuses.
But it's been awhile.
Anyhoo, the next couple of posts will be a catch up on what's been going on in Tarpit Towers.
I did a small drop in Belfast (25/01). I was deliberately seeking out visually interesting places to put work, which isn't easy in Belfast, when I came across these babies....

... I couldn't help myself! It also sparked an idea for future drops in Belfast.....more soon!
